The United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has funded natural history studies since 2016. In 2021, the FDA Rare Neurodegenerative Disease Grant Program was launched when ACT for ALS was signed into law.

In 2022, Dr. David Walk of the University of Minnesota received a grant to complete a retrospective & prospective study in ALS clinic-based multicenter data collection for the next four years.
